I’m self-taught in glass. I did stained glass as a hobby for years before learning about fused glass. Once my interest in kiln-formed glass expanded, I sought out glass artists and learned of Dale Chihuly.  Sounds quaint now, doesn’t it?  But I saw the film “Chihuly over Venice” and was amazed.   To me, the concept provided permission to do ANYTHING.  I remember thinking, “This is why Dale Chihuly is famous”. And while Dale was an inspirational influence, my early visual influences were Ginny Ruffner and Robin Grebe. I loved the incredible narrative and complex composition of their pieces. Over the years I’ve found narrative work to be common concept of women glass artists.  Not all, of course, but certainly my favorites–besides Ginny and Robin, I adore Christina Bothwell’s work, as well as Janis Miltenberger, Sibylle Peretti… There have been so many talented artists that have impacted my creative spirit that it’s hardly fair to narrow it down to so few!
