The strongest influences during the most formative years of developing my work were all painters such as Claude Monet, George Seurat, Gene Davis, Kenneth Noland and Mark Rothko.  As for artists that are alive and kicking today, I would have to say that the most influential artist for me would be Lino Tagliapietra.  It is not just the quality of his work but more how he lives his life.  His life is his work! Lino’s creativity is expressed through an endless curiosity with an unparalleled intellectual and instinctive understanding of form and color.

It is always a difficult relationship between being influenced or copying another artist.  Having so much respect for Lino, I am always extremely sensitive about getting too close to any of his ideas.  As I think about and make my work, I try to mostly be influenced by the way Lino thinks about and makes his work, not his work.  If I can encompass even a small portion of the integrity and honesty that exudes from Lino’s work, then I will be happy.

So, here I am now, perhaps going full circle back to my painting days, making glass panels, certainly inspired by the likes of Gene Davis, Paul Jenkins, and Morris Louis, all the while being inspired and influenced by my friend and mentor Lino Tagliapietra.
